14-year Veteran Post 87 HiTom Head Coach Returns to Finch Field |
High Point/Thomasville – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms announced today the hiring of long-time Post 87 HiToms Head Coach Rob Shore as their 2025 HPT HiToms Coastal Plain League manager.
Following a successful 14-year run as the Post 87 HiToms skipper, Shore returns to Finch Field on the heels of two successful seasons as the manager of the Old North State League’s High Point Hushpuppies and back-to-back 1A NCHSAA state baseball championships at Uwharrie Charter Academy. Approaching his third season at the helm of the highly decorated Randolph County high school baseball program with a 50-16 two-year record, Shore has 29 seasons of head coaching experience and amassed an impressive 307-137 mark leading the Post 87’s.
“We are thrilled to have Rob assume our head coach’s position with the HiToms,” HPT HiToms President Greg Suire said. “His leadership skills, connection with student-athletes and baseball passion has paved the way not only for his team’s on-field success but his enduring relationships with former players.”
A former baseball standout at Southern Wesleyan University and football and baseball star at Liberty High School in Liberty, South Carolina, Shore has spent 25 years teaching and coaching in the public school system.
“I am extremely excited about rejoining the HiToms organization,” Rob Shore said. “The 14 years I spent as the 87’s head coach were some of my greatest baseball memories. During that time I grew and learned so much as a coach. It molded me as a leader and shaped me as a professional. The opportunity Greg Suire gave me in 2008 to lead the Post 87 HiToms has led me to this new Coastal Plain League opportunity within the HiToms organization. He entrusted me then to help bring life to the legion program and he’s asking me again to step up and bring a spark back to a storied organization. I’m completely ready to give it a go.”
Married to the former Andrea Clark of High Point for 25 years, Shore is the proud father of Jaiden and Mirielle Shore.
“The focus for next summer is to fill the roster with players who have high moral character, a resounding desire to compete and a maturity level that accepts the team concept,” Shore said. “Competition always starts within the team. That’s a healthy way to draw the best out of them,” Shore said. “Also, bringing in coaches who have elite baseball knowledge, high character and a passion for building relationships is a top priority.”
Shore added, “Two of my favorite things about coaching are winning and having fun. The enjoyment is in the winning and that’s important. But, seeing young men grow their game and become great husbands, fathers and leaders is the greatest feeling as a coach. If the players buy into our philosophy of TEAM first, and excel in pressure situations, we can definitely win a lot of ball games this summer. Of course talent will play a major role, but it’s the coach’s job to manage that talent, communicate effectively and find a line-up and rotation that produce.”
