Bergquist Brings Championship Pedigree to High Point-Thomasville for 2026 Season

High Point-Thomasville, NC — [May 5, 2026] — The High Point-Thomasville HiToms are proud to announce that Ted Bergquist will call High Point-Thomasville home for the 2026 season, following a championship run (CPL) in 2025 that capped the final year of the Tobs in Wilson, North Carolina.

Bergquist, who served as head coach of the Tobs, led the club to its first Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Championship in 2025, adding another accolade to a baseball career that spans more than three decades.

“Ted is a proven winner with a deep understanding of the game,” said Greg Suire, Team President. “His experience at every level and his ability to lead players make him the perfect fit for our organization and community.”

A former left-handed pitcher during his playing days, Bergquist transitioned into coaching following his time on the field. His coaching journey began at Colorado Northwestern, where he worked in both baseball and basketball, while also leading American Legion teams in Fort Collins, Colorado during the summers.

Bergquist went on to coach women’s basketball at Mesa University and men’s basketball at Metropolitan State University in Denver before returning to his baseball roots. He spent nearly two decades as a collegiate and professional umpire, working across NCAA Division II, Division I, and Minor League Baseball levels.

In 2021, Bergquist returned to the dugout as a baseball coach at Fort Lupton High School before moving to Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins. Serving as pitching coach in 2022 and head coach in 2023, he led the program to its first two playoff appearances in school history and capped his tenure with a high school championship run, further establishing his reputation as a program builder.

He later returned to the collegiate level as pitching coach at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, helping guide the Warriors to the District Championship Game in 2025.

During the summer months, Bergquist has thrived in collegiate summer baseball, leading two championship teams in the past three years — capturing the Mile High Collegiate League title in 2023 with the Fort Collins Force and the Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup in 2025 with the Wilson Tobs.

Following the Tobs’ championship season, Bergquist joined the Collierville High School baseball program in Collierville, Tennessee, as an assistant coach.

“Ted’s track record speaks for itself,” said Mike Bell, Tobs General Manager. “From high school to college to summer league championships, he knows how to build winning teams and develop players.”

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to continue building something special in High Point-Thomasville,” said Bergquist. “This is a great baseball community, and I’m excited to get to work.”
