One day after a five-home run, 12-5 win over Martinsville, the 5-1 High Point-Thomasville HiToms scored 12 runs again in a 12-2 exhibition versus the Carolina Disco Turkeys. The HiToms worked as a team to smash the Disco Turkeys, walking seven times, and slapping 11 hits.
Alex Stone was the offensive player of the game for HP-Thomasville, with a pair of singles and the HiToms lone home run of the night, a two-run homer in the five-run sixth.
The HiToms and Disco Turkeys were close through the first frames as the High Point-Thomasville bullpen and the Disco Turkeys traded success. After four innings, the score was 2-2. From there, the HiToms took command, scoring ten runs in two innings.
Five HiToms recorded base hits in the fourth. Ty Wilmsmeyer hit in Alex Stone for the first run, followed by a crucial Colby Wilkerson base hit, with the bases loaded and two outs. The UNC Tar Heel crushed a pitch high and far, onto the warning track hill in left field, clearing the packed bases. Wilkerson’s sharp instincts brought him home in the next plate appearance, as he scored from second on a wild pitch.
In the next inning, four HiTom hits brought home five more runs, with RBIs from Wilmsmeyer, CJ Johnson and Wilkerson, leading the HiToms to a 12-2 victory.
The HiToms are off on Sunday afternoon as they prepare for a Monday doubleheader with the 3-4 Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
