The High Point-Thomasville HiToms scored early and often across two seven-inning doubleheaders Friday night in Forest City. Game one was a 12-3 affair followed by a 4-1 win, powered by home runs by Hogan Windish and Von Seibert. With the two wins over the Forest City Owls, the HiToms stayed undefeated, rising to 3-0.

In the first game, starting pitcher Gavin Mortenson was given an early lead with three runs scoring in the top of the first. The HiToms sent six players to the plate before recording an out. Luke Spiva, Chet Sikes, and Hogan Windish all scored first inning runs to start the action for HP-T.

Sikes was the offensive star of game one for the HiToms, finishing 3-4 with three runs driven in and scored. Spiva continued his hot start to the season by doubling and drawing two walks out of the leadoff spot. The HiToms drew eight walks in game one, leading to 12 runs across the seven innings. Ellis Stokes was a problem on the bases for Forest City, scoring three HiTom runs. Stokes ran the bases with speed and precision, stealing three bases and forcing one of six Owls errors.

Mortenson struck out three across his first three innings in the Coastal Plain League, ceding to Will Lancaster, who pitched well and earned his second win of the year. The USC-Upstate lefty allowed just one hit to the Owls over his three innings, striking out four batters. UNCG’s KJ Wells struck out the side in the ninth to finish the game.

In game two, the HiToms were led by Gabe Golob in his first official CPL game. The Wake Forest righty tossed five scoreless for the second straight game, punching out eight Owls and scattering four baserunners. The Owls did not get a runner to third base over his five innings. Luke Davis and Tristan Snyder finished the win with five more strikeouts in the 6th and 7th. In total, the HiToms struck out 23 Owls in the two seven-inning games.

The HiToms pitching staff was supported by two longballs in game two. Mississippi State’s Von Seibert led off the second inning with his first HiToms home run. The HiToms’ cleanup bat smashed a pitch out to deep right field for the first of many home runs this summer. One inning later, Hogan Windish came to the plate with two runners on-base and just two outs. The 2020 CPL Hitter of the Year went to work, majestically homering over the tall left field fence at McNair Field.

Tomorrow, the HiToms look to stay without a loss against the Asheboro Copperheads from McCrary Park. First pitch tomorrow is at 7:05 p.m. Video coverage of the game is available at FloBaseball.tv.
