HiToms Sign Power on Both Sides of the Ball
The High Point-Thomasville HiToms are excited to announce the signings of Noah Ledford and Gabe Golob, two premier college baseball talents from Georgia Southern and Wake Forest.
Ledford is one of the most feared first basemen in the Sun Belt, crushing 23 home runs over his 103 career games. The Buford, GA native was named a 2019 Collegiate Baseball All-American as a freshman, after a .291 average and 11 home runs.
2021 has been another productive year for the Buford, GA native. Ledford is second on the Eagles with 12 homers and 38 RBI, once again providing punch to the Georgia Southern offense. Ledford’s best game to date was on March 20th at Troy. Ledford was not retired by the Trojans in five plate appearances, finishing the afternoon with two home runs and three walks.
Gabe Golob is one of the more intriguing additions to the HiToms pitching staff. The former Harvard-Westlake School starting pitcher is slated to transfer from Division III to High-Major Division I, moving from NYU to Wake Forest for the 2022 season.
The Encino, CA native attended Harvard-Westlake as a high schooler and was their ace in his Junior campaign, putting up a 1.17 ERA. Harvard-Westlake has been the best baseball school in the country over the past decade, producing MLBers Max Fried, Lucas Giolito, and Jack Flaherty.
After Harvard-Westlake, Golob’s baseball journey took him to NYU, where he assembled his arsenal into one of the best in Division III by training at Driveline Baseball in Kent, WA. Just before the cancellation of the Division III baseball season in 2020, Golob’s velocity had risen considerably from the low eighties to the low nineties, leading to the best two starts of his career. Over his two starts in 2020, he struck out 23, walked just two batters, and allowed just one earned run, setting the school’s single game strikeout record twice.
With the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 NYU baseball seasons, Golob’s journey has brought him to Wake Forest as a 2022 graduate transfer. But the first North Carolinians to see Golob in action will be HiToms fans in 2021.
