High Point/Thomasville – The HiToms will be well represented at the 2022 Coastal Plain League All-Star Game in Holly Springs this Sunday, July 10th.

Eli Weisner (3B/UNC-Charlotte) and Justin Johnson (SS/Wake Forest) earned starts in the game for the West division, while Mitch Smith (C/UNC-Greensboro) earned a spot as a reserve catcher for the West.

Weisner has swung a hot bat all season, batting .338 through 23 games and 80 at bats. Weisner has slugged a team high four home runs while driving in a team high 19 RBI.

Johnson has put together a remarkable season thus far, leading the team in games played (24), hits (30), extra base hits (10), runs (26) and walks (16) all while hitting a robust .333. Johnson’s glove has been equally impressive, splitting time between second and short and collecting a number of highlight reel plays for the HiToms.

In a short amount of time Smith has impressed both with his bat and with his versatility in the field. While splitting time between first, third and catcher, Smith has put together a sturdy .339 batting average through 16 games, while driving in 8 runs and collecting four extra base hits.

With the HiToms finishing the first half of the season in second place, manager DJ Russ earned the nod as assistant coach for Savannah’s Tyler Gillum. Russ guided the HiToms through a turbulent first half to a solid 12-12 record and second place finish in the West, keeping the HiToms on pace to compete for the second half title and playoff berth.

The CPL All-Star Game will take place Sunday at Ting Stadium, home of the Holly Springs Salamanders. First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 pm.
