The High Point-Thomasville HiToms entered Thursday’s contest with the Asheboro Copperheads with just one win in five tries when playing at Asheboro’s McCrary Park. That all changed with a 10-4 win powered by the bats. HP-T opened the offensive floodgates with 12 hits and two home runs, raising the season tally to 26.
The tracks were laid for a successful game with seven strong innings from starting pitcher Jake Tate. Tate had the longest start from a High Point-Thomasville pitcher this season with a final line of 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, and 3 Ks. Pitching to contact, Tate held the Copperheads in check without a strikeout until the sixth inning.
Tate had more than enough run support, starting in the third. HP-T took advantage of two Asheboro errors to begin the inning. Von Seibert scored on an error by the Asheboro first baseman, followed in short order by Ellis Stokes’ 14th steal of the year. Stokes popped off the bag and scored the second HP-T run when the throw to third escaped the reach of the third baseman.
In the fourth, Thomas Caufield smashed a home run into the trees beyond the right field fence at McCrary Park to score two more. Caufield’s third home run of the season traveled 420 feet. With momentum, the HiToms put five up in the following frame.
CJ Johnson took a hack to follow and singled to right field. Noah Ledford then doubled, setting up Matt Corder. The Mississippi State center fielder rainbowed a 2-2 pitch over the left field foul pole for a three-run home run. Von Seibert doubled in Thomas Caufield to make it 8-3. To wrap up the inning, the HiToms made it 9-3 at the halfway point when Hogan Windish was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.
With the win, the HiToms improved to 14-10, 1.5 games ahead of the Copperheads for second in the CPL West Division. The HiToms are back in action tomorrow to face the Asheboro Copperheads at home. First pitch is at 7:00 at historic Finch Field, for Lidl 2 Field Night. and the game is available to stream on FloBaseball.tv.
