HiToms Mourn the Passing of Longtime Team Trainer Rusty Goins

The High Point Thomasville HiToms organization is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Rusty Goins, our beloved longtime team trainer and a pillar of the Thomasville community. Goins was involved in a car accident on June 29 and succumbed to his injuries July 5, 2026.

Goins served the HiToms and Post 87 HiToms for many years, becoming a trusted caretaker and friend to players and HiTom City. His unwavering commitment to building personal connections defined his time with the organization.

In addition to his service with the HiToms, Goins was the Chief of the Thomasville Rescue Squad, where he dedicated more than 45 years to protecting and supporting the community he loved. His impact extended far beyond baseball, touching countless lives through his leadership and compassion. He also played a role in community relief, helping organize donations for Hurricane Helene victims in 2024.

In June 2025, the HiToms proudly nominated Rusty as a Thomasville Star Unsung Hero, recognizing his decades of service, humility, and heart.

A lifelong Thomasville resident, Goins graduated from East Davidson High School in 1981 and remained committed to serving his hometown throughout his life.

The HiToms organization extends its deepest condolences to Rusty’s family, colleagues, and the entire Thomasville Rescue Squad community. His legacy of care, connection, and service will forever be part of HiToms history.
