The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (16-10) are winners of four in a row entering a Monday night game versus the Forest City Owls (12-15). HP-T beat the Owls on the 4th of July in a thrilling 11-8 win, homering six times. Tonight, the chase is on once again at 7:05pm.
Since the start of the second half, the HiToms are averaging over 10 runs per game over their 4-1 second half. HP-T is 17-10 overall, putting them in good position for the second spot in the Coastal Plain League Pettit Cup Playoffs.
Thomas Caufield has been the offensive star of the past week, smashing four home runs while on a nine-game hitting streak. Since beginning the hit streak, the HiToms third baseman has RBIs in six-straight, and multiple hits in four of the last six. Caulfield is now second in RBIs on the HiToms.
Hogan Windish has also continued to hit while as he attempts a repeat CPL Hitter of the Year honor. Windish has team-best .352 batting average, hit a league-leading 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. Windish also has a nine-game hitting streak, raising his OPS over the past week to 1.223, second-best in the league.
HP-T sends Gavin Mortenson to the mound for tonight’s game. The Western Carolina freshman has not walked a batter in three starts for the HiToms. The former Post 87 carries a 5.40 ERA into tonight’s ballgame, the second game in a row against the Owls.
