The HiToms dropped a 7-3 non‑CPL contest to the Queen City Corndogs on Friday night at Finch Field.
Queen City jumped on the Tommies in the top of the first, plating five runs on five hits, including a solo homer to seize control. The HiToms scored two of their own in the bottom half, trimming the deficit to 5-2 after one.
A pitching change to open the second brought in right-hander Carter Sterchi, who worked four straight innings allowing no hits and striking out four. Both teams went quiet from the second through the fifth, trading four consecutive scoreless innings.
“I felt like my slider was working, and my body felt nice and loose,” Sterchi said.
The HiToms added a late run in the seventh, yet the early deficit proved decisive in a 7-3 loss.
The HiToms return to action on the road tomorrow night, taking on the Florence Flamingos at 7 PM. Follow along for live updates on Instagram @hitomsbaseball or Twitter @HTHiToms.
