Holly Springs – The High Point/Thomasville HiToms lost their third consecutive Coastal Plain League contest on Wednesday Night, falling 9-8 to the Holly Springs Salamanders.

The HiToms once again got out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring one run in the first inning, and three more in the second inning thanks to an Eli Weisner (3B/UNC-Charlotte) single that scored two runs.

HiTom starter Jake Bloss (P/Lafayette College) was chased after allowing 2 runs in the third inning, but his teammates responded with a  four run fourth that extended the lead to 8-2.

The salamanders continued to chip away, putting up three runs in the bottom of the 4th frame to make it an 8-5 ball game, and tacking on one more in the 7th to make it 8-6, all while keeping the HiToms offense stagnant.

In the ninth, reliever Matt Little (P/UNC-Charlotte) began his second inning of work with a strikeout, but staggered the rest of the inning while trying to record the six-out save. Little loaded the bases for the Salamander’s Gavin Troutman, who delivered a two-strike, two out single to tie the game at 8.

Little was pulled in favor of Jacob Halford(P/NC State), who proceeded to load the bases again before ultimately walking in the winning run from third base.

The loss drops the HiToms to 5-4 in CPL action, and marks their third straight defeat, with their last win being against  Holly Springs on Saturday at Finch Field. It will be a quick turnaround for the HiToms who head up to Martinsville on Thursday to take on the Mustangs at 7 pm.
