The HiToms fell 6-5 to the Macon Bacon in Monday night’s home matchup, coming up just short despite a late ninth‑inning surge.

Macon opened with a two‑run first, but the HiToms countered right away as first baseman Carson Cabbage tied it with a two‑run homer in the bottom half to make it 2-2 heading into the second. The Bacon added another run in the top of the second, and the HiToms evened it again in the third, capitalizing on four walks to level the score at 3-3.

The Bacon regained control with two runs in the fifth and tacked on another in the seventh to stretch the lead to 6-3. Down to their final three outs, the HiToms staged a late surge, scoring two runs on five walks but left three on base as the final out locked in the 6-5 loss.

The HiToms hit the road Wednesday night to face the Lexington County Blowfish. Follow along for live updates on Instagram @hitomsbaseball or Twitter @HTHiToms.

They return home Thursday at 6:30 PM for another contest against the Boone Bigfoots.
