After dropping a couple of season-opening exhibitions, the High Point-Thomasville HiToms were especially hungry for their first victory of the 2021 season. They would secure that win and some revenge against the Catawba Valley Stars on Sunday evening, cruising to a 8-0 win.
Gabe Golob would get his first start in a game since March of 2020. He was excellent on the mound, going five innings strong for the HiToms while only allowing one hit. He also tallied six strikeouts and only three walks in his first game action in over a year. Colby Roy and KJ Wells would complete the shutout for the HiToms, pitching one inning apiece in relief of Golob.
The bats came alive for High Point-Thomasville, tallying eight hits, including five for extra bases. CJ Johnson would provide the first home run of the season in the 6th inning, hitting a towering two-run shot over the right field fence and on to Ball Park Road.
The HiToms were dominant on Sunday evening, getting revenge on a Catawba Valley team that defeated them on Friday night. High Point-Thomasville’s next game will be Tuesday night in Asheboro, where they will start Coastal Plain League play.
