The High Point-Thomasville HiToms and Forest City Owls played a game at historic Finch Field this 4th of July that they won’t soon forget. The back-and-forth contest had everything one could ask for from a baseball game- comebacks, crazy moments, and a whole lot of home runs.

Forest City jumped on HiTom starter Ty Wilmsmeyer in the 1st inning to take a 3-0 lead, but this wouldn’t last too long, as the lead changed many times throughout the game. After lots of wild game action and unusual moments, the Owls took an 8-6 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning.

The bottom of the 8th was an inning to remember. Matt Corder led the inning off with a solo shot, and after Forest City forced two outs, Chet Sikes represented the tying run at the plate. After a lengthy battle that saw Sikes fend off many two-strike pitches, he launched the go-ahead 2-run homer to left field, paving the way for HPT’s 11-8 win.

The HiToms went deep a whopping six times in this game. Round-trippers from Corder, Sikes, Thomas Caufield (2), Von Seibert and Hogan Windish proved to be all the difference in a July 4th game full of offensive fireworks.

The HiToms are back in action Monday night at McNair Field in Forest City. That game will be available to stream on flobaseball.tv.
