The High Point-Thomasville HiToms and Greensboro Monarchs met for the first and only time this season on Wednesday evening for a seven-inning exhibition at historic Finch Field. The back-and-forth contest ended with a HiTom victory by the score of 10-7.
The HPT lineup looked a bit different than the usual bunch, with a lot of shuffling resulting from the injury to Luke Spiva. Jake Lysaght led off in his HiTom debut, and Cameron Mills made his Finch Field debut, which had been delayed after he took a pitch to the face in Martinsville earlier this month.
Greensboro struck in the top of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, KB Peralta drove in two with a double, and new face Lysaght scored him with a sac fly to give HPT a 3-1 lead. The Monarchs then jumped on Luke Davis, scoring four in the 5th inning. However, a seven-run 6th from the HiToms defined by strong plate discipline and Monarch miscues powered HPT to the win.
The HiToms will be back in action tomorrow for a road matchup against the Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and the game is available to stream on flobaseball.tv.
