In the first ever contest for the Carolina Disco Turkeys, they took home a 6-4 victory over the High Point-Thomasville HiToms at historic Finch Field on Saturday night. The first game in Disco Turkeys team history was delayed 30 minutes, as heavy rain rolled through the area in the afternoon.

The HiToms started right-hander Luke Davis, son of manager Scott Davis, on the mound for the contest. He struck out the side in the 1st inning, but not before allowing a three-run home run to Hayden Setzer. In 2.1 innings, Davis talled five strikeouts and four walks, while yielding five runs, four of which were earned. Cam Edmonds relieved Davis in the third inning, and went on to provide 3.2 innings of solid pitching before Tristan Snyder pitched the final frame.

High Point-Thomasville struggled to find their groove in the batter’s box in the early innings, tallying just two hits before the 7th inning. Von Seibert and Alex Stone would tally RBI singles in the final inning as part of a late, unsuccessful HiToms rally. Field conditions and defensive miscues were a big factor in this contest. The Disco Turkeys were beneficiaries of three HiTom errors, while HPT would score a run in the 1st inning off of a dropped third strike.

The Disco Turkeys rode a strong offensive performance backed by solid pitching to their first-ever victory. After falling to 0-2, High Point-Thomasville will have another opportunity to secure their first win of 2021 in another exhibition on Sunday evening at Finch Field against the Catawba Valley Stars.
