High Point/Thomasville – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms have announced that head coach Scott Davis will not return in 2022 as HiToms manager. Davis has agreed, however, to remain with the HiToms in an advisory role in HPT’s player development department.
Leading HPT to a second-place finish in the Coastal Plain League’s Western Division and bowing out in the divisional round of the playoffs to Savannah, Davis posted a 32-22 overall record and a 25-19 CPL mark.
“I greatly enjoyed coaching the HiToms this past summer,” Scott Davis said. “We assembled a talented group and made a run at bringing home the Hitoms 4th CPL title but fell one game short in the Western Division finals, losing to eventual 2021 CPL Champions; Savannah Bananas. It was a dream come true to coach at the collegiate level and I am grateful to Greg for giving me one final summer with my son Luke and an amazing group of young men.”
Davis’ team success also coincided with HPT’s presence on the Coastal Plain League’s All-CPL Team. Three HPT HiToms: Thomas Caufield (UNC Charlotte), Hogan Windish (UNC Greensboro) and Will Lancaster (USC Upstate) garnered first-team All-CPL honors while Wake Forest pitcher Gabe Golob earned second-team recognition. In addition, two HiTom players were recognized as 2021 CPL Players of the Week: Chace Harris (Ohio U.) and Matt Corder (Mississippi State).
”I can’t thank Scott enough for his efforts this year” HPT HiToms President Greg Suire said. “Although we are disappointed that he will not return, we are eternally grateful to Scott and his family for giving so much of themselves to the HiToms franchise. “From day one, Scott relished the history and expectation levels of the Tommies and undoubtedly our organization and the young men who played for him benefited tremendously. Today, we are a much better organization because of Scott Davis’ Finch Field tenure”
“It is time for me to step aside to give the young coaches in the game opportunities to grow and develop. There is no doubt the HiToms will continue to be one of the top franchises in the CPL,” Scott Davis said.
