The Asheboro Copperheads (6-9) outhit the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (9-4) 14-7 on Saturday night in an 8-3 victory, the Copperheads third of the year in the pursuit of the Deep River Trophy. The HiToms scored three in the sixth, on RBI hits from CJ Johnson and Noah Ledford and a sacrifice fly from Von Seibert.
Archdale native Landen Smith got the start, striking out four through two innings. Tyrese Hearst, Chace Harris, and Avery Cain relieved for High Point-Thomasville. In total, the HiToms, who have struck out over a batter this year, K’ed eight batters.
The HiToms clumped four of their base hits in their three-run sixth. Hogan Windish kept his bat hot with a 3-5 line. The UNCG slugger had hits in the sixth and seventh and ninth, further raising his batting average, which has risen over .100 points in the last week.
Tomorrow, the HiToms battle the Martinsville Mustangs on Father’s Day. Pregame festivities include the NC Mustang Mafia Car Show at 4 p.m. at the front entrance gate to Finch Field. Afterward, stay and enjoy America’s pastime with the one of the best teams in the Coastal Plain League. Gates open at 4 p.m. at Finch Field for what will be a special Father’s Day.
